Croatia and Serbia

Way back on August 15, 2014, we met up with our cousins John and Lesley (LA) in Croatia. John and LA travelled from Washington DC for a week holiday with us in Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split in Croatia.

CROATIA IS PARADISE! That's all that we can say because words can't describe how beautiful the coastline is or the feelings evoked from swimming in clear blue water through caves or diving around ship wrecks.

Dubrovnik:
Our first port of call, so to speak, was Dubrovnik, in the south of Croatia. Many of you may recognize the town as the setting for King's Landing in Game of Thrones. We arrived a day earlier than John and LA and on our first morning in Croatia, hired a boat to take us around the city and to some of the outlying islands. It was a great way to get acclimated to our new surroundings and coastline.

John and LA arrived and we wandered the town, ate, drank, drank, and drank. We managed to stay sober long enough for a boat ride and an impromptu polo match in the harbor. And once sober, we went out on a wine tour to the local vineyards north of town. And that was that.

This is John, jumping off a 60-foot cliff into the sea. I should re-phrase that, this is John taking a photo/video of a guy jumping off a 60-foot cliff into the sea. Brian was too chicken and stood buy just watching and wondering what happened to his youth and sense of daring adventure.

Hvar:
After 3 days in Dubrovnik, we hopped a fairy and travelled north to the party town of Hvar. Whilst in Hvar, we took a boat to some of the outlying islands and went cave diving. Brian loved it and was always the first in the water and last out. John, not so much. But John put on a brave face and put up with Brian's relentless pressure to dive deeper and farther.

Split:
Off to Split on another fairy. Continuing up the coastline, the Fantastic 4 descended on Split and hit the town hard, or at least as hard as us middle aged folks can muster. John, still traumatized by his experiences in Hvar, laid low while Brian went diving and Jessica and LA took hundreds of photos of the old town. Brian would like to add that this was his first experience diving in a ship wreck and found the experience quite exhilarating, which still doesn't make up for his inability to dive off the 60-foot cliff.

Belgrade:
Well John and LA finally got tired of Brian photbombing all their photos and left us to head back to the States. We however, jetted off to Belgrade, Serbia and spent 2 days exploring the city. Who would have ever thought that we would be in Belgrade. Life has a funny way of taking you places you never thought were imaginable.
